Vintage "Ms" magazine pages, thread, acrylicSojourner
Back Story: Made from pages of Ms. magazine's inaugural issues in 1972, the title of this piece references the name editors initially considered for the publication, "Sojourner." What struck me about these early issues was how radically different they were from competitors like Cosmopolitan—Ms. was almost entirely articles, with virtually no advertisements. This gave it a notably more serious feel, a sense that women readers deserved substantive content rather than constant directives about self-improvement. By weaving these article-heavy pages primarily in black and white, I've emphasized this text-focused approach. The vibrant pink and green circular forms are crafted from the cover of one of those first issues.
